General Procedures

  1. All current (2018-2019) members of the Markham Group of Artists are eligible to enter the show.
  2. Show participants must volunteer to sit the show on a weekend day. The goal is to have show sitters from 2 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Call Shirley 905-477-5345 to book your slot. There are five weekends during the show that you may choose from. A sign-up list will be available at the show installation on November 11th. (The length of sitting time will depend on how many participants we have in the show; the more participants, the shorter your sit time!) This is a great opportunity for you to promote your work and help viewers with their holiday shopping.
  3. All work will be hung on metal display grids. Each grid is 24" wide and 72" high. Grids are available for rent at $10 each (this is one side of one grid). You may rent a minimum of 1 grid up to a maximum of 5 grids. Or, you may wish to share grid space with another member (only one person would submit and pay for MGA Show Grid Rental). For example, a two-grid rental would cost $20 (2 x $10) for the show duration. This would provide a display space 48” wide x 72” high.
  4. Due to the configuration of the display grids, artwork must be no larger than 68” wide or 66” high (including frame).
  5. You must reserve and pre-pay for the number of grids you wish to use to hang your work in this show.
  6. Full payment of the grid rental fee must be received before Saturday, November 10th. Payments can be made online via credit card, or, mail your cheque to Lynda Warne at 1882 Donald Cousens Pkwy., Markham, ON L6B 0Y2. Cheques should be payable to “Markham Group of Artists”. Please indicate on the cheque the number of grids you are paying for. NOTE: There will be no refunds for grid rentals.
  7. You are responsible for hanging your artwork between Sunday, November 11–Tuesday, November 13 from 6:30am-9pm. For those needing guidance in hanging,  there will be experienced members on hand to help out on Sunday Nov. 11 from 2-5 pm. Artwork can be secured to the grids with provided cable ties. Please ensure your artwork is wired for hanging.
  8. You are responsible for taking down your artwork and removing it from the facility on Sunday, December 16th, between 6:30am – 9pm. The Markham Group of Artists, or members of the Show Committee will not be responsible for artwork not retrieved.

Additional Information

  1. Location of your grid/grids will be determined by random draw that will take place on Installation Day. (Ultimate positioning and acceptance of work deemed suitable for inclusion in the show will be at the discretion of the Show Committee.)
  2. MGA assumes no responsibility for lost or damaged artwork. The Cornell facility has security cameras in place as well as security staff who circulate the building. Be aware that we are only able to provide additional security through the use of cable ties affixing each piece to the metal grids, and volunteer show hosts.
  3. Promotional Materials: You may display your business cards, postcards, brochures, biography on your grid/s alongside your artwork. Please use holders securely attached to the display grid. Nothing can be placed on the floor.
  4. All artwork must have an identifying label securely attached to the reverse side that includes: Title; Artist Name and Contact Information; Size (H x W); Price, or NFS. Small white cards and a black marker will be available for you to print artwork details and affix adjacent to each piece.
  5. Each participant will be provided with a special name card that will be placed at the top of your display space. This card will include any contact information you may wish to display, such as your name, and email address / website address / phone number. You will need to provide the information you wish to have on your name card.
  6. Parking at the Cornell Community Centre is FREE and is available in the covered parkade. Take a ticket as you enter the parkade and bring it with you into the Community Centre. Get the ticket validated at the Information Desk before returning to your car. You will need this ticket to exit the parkade.
