RE:formation Participant Guidelines

 

MGA Annual Juried Show

May 22 to June 2, 2019
McKay Art Centre, Unionville 

All members of the Markham Group of Artists are invited and eligible to submit 1 or 2 pieces of recently completed artwork in the show. 

The entry fee is $20 for one piece, and an additional $5 for a second piece. Entry fees are payable by credit card when pre-registering online, or by cash or cheque on Registration Day, Monday, May 20th. All entries MUST BE pre-registered first. 

We welcome our juror, Olexander Wlasenko, Curator, Whitby Station Gallery. 

Important Dates and Times: 

  • Pre-Registration Deadline: Friday, May 17th (midnight) 

  • Registration / Jury Day: Tuesday, May 21st at the McKay Art Centre
 
  • Artwork Drop-off: 10:00 to 11:00 am 
          
  • Artwork Pick-up: 1:30 to 2:30 pm (unselected work only)
  • Show Close: Sunday, June 4th at 9:00 pm
  • Artwork Pick-up: Sunday, June 4th after 7:00 pm, OR, Monday, June 5th from 10:00 to 11:00 am 

 

Opening Reception Saturday, May 25th
2:00 to 4:00 pm

Awards Presentation at 2:30 pm

People's Choice Award
:
Throughout the show, we will encourage our guests to actively participate by voting for their favourite piece of artwork for the 'People's Choice Award'. The winning artist will be presented with a certificate at the end of the show.

Participant Guidelines

All artwork entered in the show must meet the following guidelines:

General Procedures:

1. All members of the Markham Group of Artists are eligible to enter the show.
2. The entry fee is payable at time of registration.
3. 20% commission will be charged on all sales for a period of up to one year following the start date of the show.
4. MGA assumes no responsibility for lost or damaged artwork.
5. MGA is not responsible for any artwork left uncollected at any time.
6. Entrants are requested to bring with them a current one-page printed Artist Statement or Bio for inclusion in our Artists' Biography binder.


Guidelines:

  1. Art previously exhibited in an MGA Juried show will not be accepted. Only new work, completed within the last 2 years, will be accepted.
  2. All artwork must be suitably equipped and pre-wired for hanging. Sawtooth fasteners not accepted.
  3. Only original artwork (that is, no copies of works by other visual artists, whether paintings, photographs,   illustrations or classroom works which have been demonstrated on by instructors) may be submitted.
  4. All entries must have an identifying label securely attached to the reverse side that includes the following information: i) Title; ii) Artist Name; iii) Size (H x W); iv) Media; v) Price, or NFS, if 'Not For Sale'.
  5. All details on the registration form and label must be completed before work is submitted. Once the jury process is complete, no changes can be made to this information.
  6. Promotional Materials: Artists whose work is accepted into the show are welcome to display artist business cards. Other material promoting art activities can be left for display, but must not exceed 4" by 6" and must not conflict with MGA workshops and activities.
  7. Photographs, taken by the member, are acceptable as elements of a mixed media work. Single photographs are not eligible for submission.
  8. All participants are required to sit one three-hour hosting period during the show.

Size Limitations:
• Artwork must not exceed 40" in width (including frame).

• Artwork under glass must not exceed perimeter size of 124" (including frame).
• Artwork under plexiglas must not exceed perimeter size of 140" (including frame).

How to Participate: What Should I Do Next?

IMPORTANT! Please Carefully Read the Following:

  1. Pre-register your artwork by going to Member Opportunities/Call for Submissions or by phone before midnight on Friday, May 17th.


  2. Online pre-registration: You must be logged in to the MGA website with your username and password in order to register your work. 

  3. Telephone pre-registration: Please contact Lynne Panzini at 905-239-0104 if you are unable to pre-register online. You will need to have ready the following information: a) Title, b) Size (H x W), c) Media, d) Price or NFS (Not For Sale).

  4. A photo of your artwork will be used to display your work on our website if your work is accepted into the show. Take a photo before framing, if possible. Please upload an image of your artwork in JPEG file format, RGB colour mode, 2 MB maximum file size. (When you provide an image it will ensure top quality representation and simplifies the work of our volunteer photographer.)

  5. Payment methods: Credit card payment can be made online. Cash/cheque, will be accepted on Registration Day, May 20th. (Please disregard payment reminders generated by the website. Do not mail payment.)

  6. All participants must volunteer to host the show for one 3-hour time slot. Please note: there is a change in hours of the show. The gallery will be open from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m., Wednesdays to Sundays. (Gallery closed Mondays and Tuesdays.)

Registration Day, Tuesday, May 21st:

  1. Bring your pre-registered artwork(s) to the McKay Art Centre between 10:00 and 11:00 am to complete the registration process. NOTE: Entries brought after 11:30 am will not be accepted.

  2. You are required to pick up un-selected work between 1:30 and 2:30 pm.

  3. Bring cash or cheque payment for your registration fee, if you did not pre-pay on-line.

  4. Ensure that a label is securely attached to the back of your ready-to-hang artwork clearly printed with:  Title, Artist Name, Size (H x W), Media, Price (or NFS). Bring a printed, one-page, letter-size biography for inclusion in the MGA Artists’ Biography binder that will accompany the show.

Show Closing Day, Sunday, June 2nd: 


Go to the McKay Gallery to pick up any unsold artwork on either Sunday, June 2nd, after 6:00 p.m., OR, Monday, June 3rd, between 10:00 and 11:00 am only.
