Extending your creativity with WEARABLE ART

As artists, we want to see our art pieces have a life of their own out in the world, but with limited opportunities to show and share our work at the best of times, it can be more than a challenge. Some artists have chosen to use an additional creative outlet for their artwork: wearable art. Wearable art can be created through the services of a design platform for a small percentage of your sales. On such a platform, you can upload your artwork, select designs, and display the items for sale. The designs can range from clothing to home accessories. Various platforms will determine what you are paid: on some platforms you have some control over the price of sale of your items; on other platforms the price of sale is fixed. Either way, there is no fee to you as you are paid a percentage or royalty for each sale. All items are made on demand, which reduces the costs for the design company.  You are responsible, however, for marketing the items through your network and on social media.

Check out some examples of wearable art created by MGA artists below. We are creating a space on our website for our members  to link to their wearable art sites. If you are selling wearable art, please send us the information markhamartists@gmail.com so we can include the link.

Although no longer active with her wearable art line, here are some samples of Linda McIntosh's items created a few years back through VIDA (based in California). Although happy with their services, the additional shipping costs on the products were discouraging and she hopes to start up again with Montreal's Le Galeriste in the new year.

Rina Gottesman

Reflecting a strong sense of design and through the use of line and texture, Rina creates paintings that are bold and expressive. Whether working in acrylics or mixed media, Rina is always seeking to explore new and interesting effects in her art.

Born in Israel and living briefly in Brazil before eventually settling in Canada, Rina feels that life experiences influence her artistic perspective. ‘My life is a continuum of change, constantly being shaped by the people and places I encounter. As an artist who paints from the heart, those experiences that enrich my life, also influence my art."

An award winning artist, Rina’s work has been shown in both juried and non-juried shows and can be found in corporate and private collections in the United States and Canada.

Brenda Bornstein
BA, SCA,TWS

From a very young age, I have had a love of drawing, colouring and painting. As I matured, I devoted my time and energy to formal instruction and took the opportunity for artistic growth by exploring and honing my skills.

The creative process is a function of my individual DNA. Shape, colour, texture and line are design elements imbedded in me. These elements define how I see and feel and are the cornerstone of how I interpret and paint. My primary objective is to express my feelings and impressions of the beauty around me.

This past year I've concentrated on abstract art, both abstracted landscapes and non-objective subjects. My abstracts are purely instinctual. They arise from my inner being, which is colour driven and design inspired. Typically my recent works start off loose with broad strokes and then are brought together with calligraphy, mixed media and much introspection.
