November 14 & 21, 2012  Nude Figure Drawing and

Nude Figure Abstrations with  Brian Smith

Brian Smith Demo            Brian Smith's workshop was a great opportunity to hone our drawing skills with the help of a live model. A great time was had by all. Brian created a no pressure atmosphere, generoursly demostrated various concepts and gave a very informative critique of the participants work. Brian is a very skilled artist and teacher.

November 7, 2012 Surrealist Artist Marcelo Suaznabar

Marcelo Suaznabat    We were very fortunate to have international surrealist artist Marcelo Suaznabat present his work at our Member's Day. Even if you were not a fan of surrealist art you couldn't help but be impressed by his passion and skill. Marcelo explained how he draws from the subconscious or dreamworld for his inspiration as well as his concern for the future of our environment. There is a strong narrative to each of his works and he was most generous to share their story with us. Born in Bolivia Marcelo now lives in Aurora, Ontario. You can see a photo of his studio below. He has shown is work at many international art fairs, including Japan, Naples, Miami and Toronto and has permanent pieces in many National Museums. He has a very nice website with many examples of his work. Google him!

September 19, 2012 Critique with Barry Coombs

Barry Coombs   Barry Coombs conducted a critique for the MGA membership. He shared his vast knowledge and some very amusing stories.  Barry has a very easy going style and made us all feel comfortable while he gave us great insite into our works of art. He touched on subject placement, texture, content, narrative, the elements of design, colour, light and perspective. He gladly answered our questions about specific problem areas in our works and offered suggestions and advice. I think we all learned something that day.
