The Markham Group of Artists is pleased to present Small is Beautiful Art and Gift Show & Sale, a non-juried exhibition to be held at the McKay Art Centre from November 30 – December 4, 2022. MGA invites all current members to submit up to 4 paintings, sized 12” x 12” to the show will also be featured on the MGA website until January 30, 2023.  All paintings will be posted and promoted on the MGA’s Instagram and Facebook sites.

 

This show is different from other MGA shows as it offers members the added opportunity to display and sell handcrafted gift items related to their art practice. Participants may bring small items such as cards, prints, miniature paintings, scarves, holiday ornaments, etc. to display and sell only while they are sitting the show. Sales will be handled by the artist. A table will be available for the display. There will be 2 sitters for each 3.5 hour shift.

 

Opportunity to sell gift items

Members who are not submitting paintings but wish to participate in the show may rent a table at the McKay ($30 for a 5 hour time slot) to display items related to their art practice, as described above. They must be present for their time period and handle their own sales. Please email markhamartists.com with photos and a description of your items. You will be contacted with approval and a link to pay and choose a timeslot. There are 10 spots available.

 

Artwork Eligibility:
Submitted work must be original two-dimensional artworks in all traditional media, including collage and photography, that is entirely      the work of the artist and executed without the supervision of an instructor. Entries must not be copies, derivatives, or based in any way on other artists’ paintings, photographs, or other artistic works.

     -All art works must have a finished size of 12” x 12” and be wired and ready to hang.
-All art works must be for sale.
-We ask that you add a sentence about your work and any contact information you wish (website, email, phone). This information     will be listed with each painting on the website and on the MGA social media platforms. 
-Please give each painting a unique name eg. untitled paintings by the same artist must be differentiated in some way.  

Participant Guidelines

 

1.     Open to current MGA members only

 

2.     The entry fee is $20 for the first two (2) paintings. You may enter a third and fourth painting for $5 each. 

 

3.     All details on the registration form must be completed before the work is submitted.
        Please ensure the images meet the following specifications:

 

a.  Must be in jpg format only

b.  Only the image of your artwork should show (no frames or extraneous backgrounds)

c.  Image files cannot exceed 24 MB

d. Image files are to named using the following convention:

               FirstName.LastName_Title.Medium.Size.jpg (ie:Jane.Doe_title.acrylic.12x12)

 

4.     MGA will process sales during the McKay Art Centre show and retain 20% of the sale. Any further sales after Dec. 4th are to be handled by the artist and MGA will not take a percentage of the sale.

 

Conditions of Entry


1.     All paintings must be delivered to the McKay Art Centre on Tuesday, November 29 between 9:00 - 10:30 am.
        Pick up of paintings is on Monday, December 5 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

2.     All members who submit paintings for the show are required to sign up for a time to
        host-sit the show in the gallery. There will be 2 sitters per shift. There are 3 shifts
