Nov. 29 – Dec. 3, 2023 McKay Art Centre. 197 Main St. Unionville 11 am – 8 pm MGA Website Gallery: until January 31, 2024 Submissions November 6-24 The Markham Group of Artists is pleased to present our annual Small is Beautiful Art & Gift Sale, a non-juried exhibition to be held at the McKay Art Centre from Nov. 29 – Dec. 3, 2023. MGA invites all current members to submit up to 4 paintings, sized 12” x 12” and an additional 4 small paintings whose longest side is 8” or less, to be displayed in the gallery. The show will also be featured on the MGA website until January 31, 2024 and the first 4 paintings submitted will be posted and promoted on MGA’s Instagram and Facebook sites. Artisan Gift Sales at McKay Art Centre This show also offers members, who have submitted paintings to the show, the added opportunity to display and sell handcrafted gift items related to their art practice at no extra cost. Participants may bring small items such as cards, prints, miniature paintings, scarves, holiday ornaments, etc. to display and sell only while they are sitting the show. Sales will be handled by the artist and MGA will not take a commission on sales. A table will be available for the display. There will be 2 sitters for each 3 hour shift. Additional Opportunity to sell gift items at McKay Members who wish to display their gift items (as described above) for an entire day may rent a table at the McKay to display items related to their art practice, as described above. This option is also available to members who have not submitted paintings. The artist must be present for their time period and handle their own sales. There will be 2 sale tables available each day. The table prices range from $30-$50 depending on the day. Sign up is limited to the first 10 members who apply. Contact Carmela Casuccio at email@example.com to reserve a day. Payment will be made through the MGA website link once your request is confirmed. Artwork Eligibility: Submitted work must be original two-dimensional artworks in all traditional media, including collage and photography, that is entirely the work of the artist and executed without the supervision of an instructor. Entries must not be copies, derivatives, or based in any way on other artists’ paintings, photographs, or other artistic works.
1. Measurements: 12” x 12” finished size including the frame, with allowance of an additional 1/2” all around for framing. Frames with an outside measurement larger then 13” will not be accepted at this time. 2. All paintings must be wired and ready to hang and must be for sale. 3. In your online submission, please add a sentence about your work and contact information (website, Instagram). This information will be listed with each painting on the website and social media. 4. All paintings must have a unique name eg. untitled paintings by the same artist must be differentiated in some way.
Participant Guidelines 1. Open to current MGA members only 2. Entry cost: $30 for first 2 paintings, $5 each for additional painting a. Artists may submit 4 paintings measuring 12” x 12” b. Artists may also submit 4 small paintings (max 8” on longest side). 3. All details on the registration form must be completed before the work is submitted. 4. Please ensure the images meet the following specifications: a. Must be in jpg format only b. Only the image of your artwork should show (no frames or extraneous backgrounds) c. Image files cannot exceed 24 MB d. Image files are to be named using the following convention: FirstName.LastName_Title.Medium.Size.jpg (ie:Jane.Doe_title.acrylic.12x24) 5. MGA will process painting sales during the McKay Art Centre show and retain 20% of the sale. Any further sales after Dec. 3rd are to be handled by the artist and MGA will not take any commission. Conditions of Entry 1. All paintings must be delivered to the McKay Art Centre on Tuesday, November 28 between 9:00 - 10:30 am. Pick up of paintings is on Sun. Dec. 3 at 7 pm and Mon. Dec. 4 - 10 to 11:30 am 2. All members who submit paintings for the show are required to sign up for a time to sit the show in the gallery. There will be 2 sitters per 3 hour shift. There are 3 shifts per day. 3. Please sign up for your day and time when dropping off your artwork.
