
Annual Members Juried Art Show Location: Boynton House, 1300 Elgin Mills Rd E, Richmond Hill Gallery Dates: May 9 - May 18 Online gallery and social media dates: May 12 - July 31 Call For Entry: April 7 - May 2. Members may submit up to 2 paintings online
Painting drop off at Boynton House: Wednesday May 7, 9:30 am-11 am. ONLY artists whose work has been accepted will be notified by email or text by 4:00 pm on Wednesday. Unaccepted works must be picked up on Thursday, May 8th between 10 -11:30 am. Juror: Margaret Roseman Show Opening Reception: Friday May 9 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. The Awards Ceremony begins at 7:30 pm. AWARDS: First Place $200 , Second Place $175 , Third Place $125 . Pick up of paintings: Sunday May 18 at 8 pm OR Tuesday May 20 from 10 am – 12 pm (Monday is a holiday-the gallery will be closed)
Submission criteria:
- Paintings must be submitted on the website by May 2.
- All submissions confirm that the artist has read and will abide by the show rules and obligations.
- No refunds will be given after submission is complete.
- All artists submitting work must agree to sign a waiver in order to participate in the show. This is a requirement for the show to be part of the Richmond Hill Studio Tour. Please read the Waiver. You may print it out sign it and bring it to the Boynton House on May 7th OR read it and we will have copies for you to sign at the painting drop off:
- Images meet the following specifications: a. Must be in jpg format only b. Only the image of your artwork should show (no frames or extraneous backgrounds) c. Images must not be smaller than 1500px on its shortest side d. Image files cannot exceed 5 MB e. Image files are to be named using the following convention: FirstName.LastName_Title.Medium.Size.jpg (ie:Jane.Doe_title.acrylic.12x24)
Artwork Eligibility: Submitted work must be original two-dimensional artworks in all traditional media, including collage and fibre media, that is entirely the work of the artist, created within the last two years, not previously exhibited in an MGA juried show and executed without the supervision of an instructor. Entries must not be copies, derivatives, or based in any way on other artists’ paintings, photographs, or other artistic work.
Artwork Size Limitations:
- Paintings must not exceed 48” in width (including framed works regardless of perimeter size)
- Paintings under glass must not exceed perimeter size of 132” (including frame)
- Paintings under plexiglass must not exceed perimeter size of 140” (including frame).
- All accepted pieces must be dry, wired and ready to hang.
- Any paintings not within these guidelines will not be accepted for jurying.
Participant Guidelines:
- The entry fee is $30 for the first painting. $5 for second painting.
- Entry fees are payable by credit card online during the submission process.
- All details on the registration form must be correctly completed before work is submitted.
- Works may be submitted from April 7-May 2
- Description section of submission: We ask that you add a sentence or two about your work and also any contact information you wish to be published (website, email, phone) so interested buyers can reach you. This information will be listed with each painting on the website and on the MGA social media platforms.
- Every painting must have a unique name e.g. Untitled paintings by the same artist must be differentiated in some way.
- MGA will process sales during the Boynton House show and retain 20% of the sale. If you sell your painting between May 12- July 31, while the show is being promoted on MGA's social media sites, please contact markhamartists@gmail.com so your painting will be marked sold on the website.
Conditions of Entry:
- All members who submit paintings are required to host/sit the show whether their paintings are accepted or not.
- You may sign up for a time to sit the show with the link provided at the end of the submission process and via a link on the front page of the website. Any questions can be directed to Brittany Lauren via email at brittany@brittanylauren.ca Brittany will be at the Gallery on May 7 with a list of remaining spots available for those who have not already selected a time slot to sit the show.
- Artist Release: By your admission to this show you are agreeing to assume all risks associated with your participation in The Markham Group of Artists Juried Art Show, including but not limited to all claims, damages, costs, charges, liabilities and expenses for any damages sustained, including for any loss or damage to the Artwork that you are voluntarily submitting.
