Magazine Paper Collage
"Detente" reimagines a fleeting encounter between natural adversaries through the intimate language of collage. Constructed from hundreds of carefully placed fragments of magazine paper, the work transforms discarded printed perspectives into a new visual dialogue: one of tension, curiosity, and fragile understanding. By presenting predator and prey in a moment of suspended conflict, the piece challenges fixed assumptions about opposition and invites viewers to consider alternative narratives of coexistence. Through my perspective, fragmentation becomes unity; disparate materials are assembled into a shared story that speaks to negotiation, empathy, and the possibility of connection across difference. In alignment with VIEWPOINTS 2026, Detente offers a distinct lens on how perception shapes relationships, revealing that even within contrast, common ground can emerge. The work tells a story not only of survival, but of pause, the powerful space where hostility gives way to reflection.
