The Eastern Townships of Quebec, portrayed so wonderfully in the Inspector Gamache novels by Louise Penny, can only be represented by the happiness and joie de vivre of a plein air watercolour. This was based on Georgeville, PQ where the road entering and leaving the valley community seemed to me to form a heart, hence the title "Heart of the Village".
