Tribal Crackling Wind is the nom de guerre and persona of dancer, choreographer and artistic director, Peter Chin and his company of the same name. Peter is a "study of fluid grace" whose dance and choreography are grounded in his identity as a Hakka Jamaican Chinese, whose creative force has expanded across the globe. His dance pose with low, crouching stance, with fingers flexed back, and the thumb and fingers forming circles embody Cambodian (Khmer) and Asian traditional dance. The extensive circular flexure of wrist, and fingers symbolize flowers, and combined with the flowing movements of knees and hands are evocative of the style of dance named Motion in Stillness. The universal aesthetics of the figure appears sculptural, all the while connected to nature through time and space. The glow of skin of the face, hands and arms are the focus of the painting while the embossed texture of the dark green background adds dimension and hints at the cultural site where the dancer is located.
