Fibre Art
Both on a personal and social level, we experience monochromatic life circles or spirals. However, there is always a turning point of change. This piece is inspired by the personal experiences and emotional connection to all the new beginnings that I have had, either driven externally or by my own quest for improvement. Society’s turning points on the other hand have the power to steer humanity into the direction of sustainable future. With a variety of wet-felting techniques, I incorporated merino wool and silk fibres to achieve abstract visualization of the notion of change and disruption. Matted, condensed, and pressed—here, the artist has blended and shaped the wool, silk and cotton fibers to create a cohesive and integral visual statement. The concentric circle shapes emanate from this off-centred composition, adding a hint of bright colour in an otherwise subdued and contained space. A sophisticated and poetic interplay between line and form, between circles and a sphere, the interconnectedness of all things created.
